The Charlotte Hornets did a good job this offseason in upgrading the roster. They had a strong 2021 NBA Draft, selecting James Bouknight with the 11th overall pick and then acquiring the draft rights to Kai Jones, the No. 21 overall pick, from the New York Knicks.

Those are two more excellent young players to add to the Hornets’ core of LaMelo Ball, Miles Bridges, and P.J. Washington. Terry Rozier can also be included in that, as he signed an extension with the organization this offseason as well.

The one area the Hornets needed to upgrade was the center spot. Mason Plumlee was a nice acquisition from the Detroit Pistons, but they could use a little more help there. Myles Turner would be that help.

Turner would help turn around a Hornets squad that has a lot of offensive firepower but lacked some on the defensive side of the ball. Turner led the league with 3.4 blocks per game and is one of the premier rim protectors in the NBA with his precision timing and instincts. He is a real game-changer defensively.

On offense, he is looked at as a stretch-5, as he has made 35.2 percent of his attempts from the 3-point line. However, he can provide much more offensive output than that, he just wasn’t relied upon to do it in Indiana with Domantas Sabonis there.
