Coming off a year in which they barely missed the NBA playoffs, losing to the Pacers in the play-in tournament, the Charlotte Hornets should be very happy with the place they are in as a franchise right now. They have a young, emerging superstar at point guard with LaMelo Ball, a former All-Star veteran in Gordon Hayward and a ton of other unique, young talents that are only going to continue getting better.

Charlotte was one of the more exciting teams in the league to watch during the 2020-21 season and that is likely not going to change during the 2021-22 season.

As these young guys continue to grow, the Hornets are going to suddenly become a strong team in the Eastern Conference, especially with the additions of Mason Plumlee, Kelly Oubre Jr. and two rookies in Kai Jones and James Bouknight this offseason.

However, the Hornets are still a team who could end up having to fight for a playoff spot late in the season because they are still missing something. Charlotte’s frontcourt has been a mess for years now and while P.J. Washington, Mason Plumlee and Kai Jones will look to fix things this year, there is one player who could fix everything immediately for the Hornets.

The Houston Rockets are rebuilding and have a ton of young talents, so it seems unrealistic that they would look to move one of their guys, but Christian Wood is a name that has come up in some trade rumors this offseason with a handful of teams interested in adding him after his breakout 2020-21 NBA season.

Last year, Christian Wood missed 31 games due to injuries, but he averaged 21.0 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.2 blocks and shot 51.4% from the floor, 37.4% from three-point range. The 25-year-old big man has fought hard for this opportunity to showcase his skills and his breakout year with the Rockets has caught the attention of many around the league.
