Worst Landing Spot: Philadelphia 76ers
Philadelphia 76ers’ head coach Doc Rivers is a Rajon Rondo advocate. Rivers praised the Los Angeles Clippers for acquiring Rondo last season and wished that he was on the team before he was fired as head coach following the 2019-20 season.
Going to a team with a coach he is familiar with would make for a good landing spot, but roster-wise, the 76ers isn’t great. The Ben Simmons situation is a big sticking point, as no one truly knows what the roster is going to look like heading into the regular season.
As things currently stand, there is a lot of competition for minutes in the backcourt. Tyrese Maxey is ready for a bigger role this season and Shake Milton played well when called upon. The 76ers also selected point guard Jaden Springer with their first-round pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.
Those are a lot of mouths to feed at the point guard spot without even considering which players could be coming back in a potential Simmons deal.

On the court, some of the same issues the team has offensively with Simmons would present themselves with Rondo as well. While Rondo is a more willing shooter, that is not always a good thing, as he has been inefficient in recent seasons. Without the All-NBA Defense and elite rebounding, Rondo doesn’t provide the same positive impact as Simmons.
While it would be a match with the head coach, the 76ers wouldn’t be a match roster and skillset-wise for Rondo.
