Does this trade make sense for the Boston Celtics?
If they can acquire Larry Nance Jr. for some secondary talents and some draft picks, then the Boston Celtics should definitely capitalize on this opportunity, but it seems unlikely that the Celtics will be able to get him for such a cheap price. He may not be a key starter, but Nance Jr. could easily be one of the better bench frontcourt talents in the league with the Celtics.
He is athletic, versatile in terms of the players he can guard and would be a key talent for them to utilize in transition, which is why Nance Jr. could easily be a player that helps them advance farther in the playoffs this season. His value to virtually any team in this league is above-average, which is why the Celtics would definitely have to offer up some better assets to get him.
What could they possibly offer up though with Marcus Smart now signing a big contract extension with the Celtics? They could possibly look to move Josh Richardson around midseason if he is not playing well, but other than him and Dennis Schroder, they really do not have any other average contract guys that they can trade away.
The Celtics have locked up their future with Brown, Tatum, Smart and Williams all under-contract for years to come, which is why Boston does not have much “wiggle-room” in terms of making moves for key talents via trades.

Larry Nance Jr. would be a really strong midseason addition for them, but since the Cleveland Cavaliers do not have an immediate need to trade him, the Celtics really do not have a means to trade for him.
