Veteran shooting guard JJ Redick is in no hurry to pick which team he will be playing with next in his NBA career. In a recent episode of his podcast, The Old Man and the Three, Redick made it clear that it will be a little while until we see him back on the court.
“Just taking my time. I feel no rush to make any sort of decision on next season. And I felt that way when the season ended, and I feel that way now. My focus right now is just hanging with my family and enjoying the offseason. And we’ll make a decision on next season—what team, what city, etc.—probably sometime in the next two or three months. But, you know, I would say, pretty much definitively, like, I won’t be in a training camp to start the season. That’s not gonna happen. So, you know, I’ll join a team at some point this season and finish the year and try to go get a chip. That’s the plan.”
The veteran sharpshooter had a difficult 2020-21 season, averaging 7.4 points and playing 16.4 minutes per game. It was the fewest minutes he has played per game since the 2007-08 season and the fewest points since the 2008-09 season. His 3-point percentage was the second-lowest of his career as well.
At 37-years old, it is not a surprise that Redick has seen his production begin to slip. But, it was only two years ago that Redick was providing double-digit scoring per game. He also poured in a career-high 18.1 points per game with the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2018-19 season.

Teams can never have enough perimeter shooting and Redick can still provide that. He will wait to pick a team to play with, and he will likely be looking to sign with a contender once he is ready to return.
