Does this trade make sense for the Portland Trail Blazers?

This NBA trade scenario does not seem to have many benefits for the Portland Trail Blazers but the context would certainly change if Damian Lillard were to approach the front office about a trade. It is highly unlikely that they will trade him on their own and will have to think about his request if he wants out.

If Lillard were to want out, the Trail Blazers would have no choice but to pursue a trade for Lillard in exchange for a massive return. Getting ahead of the drama would maximize a potential return, but the haul would be robust regardless.

Immanuel Quickley and Obi Toppin both showed great promise down the stretch of the season. They improved as the year went on and could have long careers in the league moving forward. This would put Portland in a bit of a rebuild mode and nothing helps that more than racking up draft capital.

Lillard is worth many picks and would net quite a return in this instance. This will be a huge emotional loss for a team like Portland who drafted Lillard and he has been there ever since. With that being said, all eras must come to an end and Lillard’s in Portland could be ending.

When the time comes, this will be one of the biggest blockbusters in the offseason. Lillard could be on the move soon and it will be interesting to see which team offers the best return to Portland.
