3 teams who should pursue ‘buy-low’ trade for Jarrett Culver

Things have not progressed well for Jarrett Culver yet in his NBA career. He was selected by the Phoenix Suns with the sixth overall pick in 2019 but was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Cameron Johnson, who was selected later in the draft, and Dario Saric.

Culver has struggled to find his footing with the Timberwolves. He had some flashes in his rookie season, averaging 9.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.6 blocks in 23.9 minutes per game. He played in 63 games, starting 35 of them. Unfortunately, he did not make strides in his second season.

Culver saw his production drop in his second season. He battled injuries, but Minnesota also added a ton of competition on the wing that produced more than Culver was.

Anthony Edwards was picked first overall, making it three straight years the Timberwolves used a first-round pick on a shooting guard. Josh Okogie was selected the year before Culver out of Georgia Tech. The team also has Malik Beasley and Jaylen Nowell at shooting guard and D’Angelo Russell is capable of playing there as well alongside another point guard.

With so much competition, the Timberwolves are reportedly open to trading Culver, even if it is for only a second-round pick.

While it seems like a poor decision to move on from a player that was selected sixth overall just two years ago, there is no clear path to playing time for him. Getting anything, even a future second-round pick for him is better than nothing.

Coming off of ankle surgery, the market for the former Texas Tech product likely isn’t going to be robust. But, there are still some teams he would be a good fit for. Here are three teams who should pursue a buy-low trade for Culver.
