Dallas Mavericks
Entering free agency, the Dallas Mavericks were a team that was looking for a point guard. Kyle Lowry, Lonzo Ball, Chris Paul, and Mike Conley were all on their radar.
However, Lowry is headed to the Miami Heat, Ball is going to the Chicago Bulls, and both Paul and Conley re-signed with their respective teams.
That leaves the Mavericks with a limited group of point guards to choose from as guys like Patty Mills, Spencer Dinwiddie, and Dennis Schroder have also found new teams.
While Dallas is confident in Jalen Brunson — and Luka Doncic handling a heavy workload — they could still use a backup point guard that can provide a spark in the scoring department.

Isaiah Thomas has always been a talented scorer, so being told to just go out and score wouldn’t be an issue.
After signing Doncic to an extension, the Mavericks now need to shift their focus to improving the roster around him. Taking a flier on Thomas is a move that wouldn’t carry many risks for a team like the Mavericks.
