Dennis Schroder

Before free agency began, Schroder apparently wanted a $100M deal, but now, it is looking more and more likely that he will not get the kind of contract that he wants. This whole Dennis Schroder contract situation is a mess, especially since he turned down a contract-extension worth $84M over four years!

Now, Dennis Schroder will be lucky to eclipse $15M for the 2021-22 season as pretty much every team in the league is navigating around him. As free agency goes on, the 27-year-old guards’ price continues to decline and there is very limited interest league-wide in him right now because not many teams have a lot of money to offer him like he would want.

Taking a one-year, MLE type of deal with a team is still in play, but so is the possibility of the Lakers involving him in a sign-and-trade going elsewhere. Again, the amount of teams with interest in Dennis Schroder, especially on a bigger contract, is very limited right now, so this may not be something that is feasible.

The first day of free agency was going to be very telling of what the league thinks of Dennis Schroder and it is very apparent that they do not view him as a true championship-level point guard. Schroder is a great guard and was definitely a key member of the Lakers last season, but there are better options that teams would rather pursue, especially since they come at a lower price.

The waiting game is getting very long for Dennis Schroder and his camp and as a result, he is missing out on money every second that goes by. He will be playing next season, but Schroder is going to have to take a major pay cut now to do so, especially if he wants to be on a playoff-contending team.
