Minnesota Timberwolves
Besides the Spurs, the Minnesota Timberwolves are a team that could potentially offer Bobby Portis an expanded role in 2021-22.
The question is, does Portis want to be promoted to a starter after serving as a bench player for the majority of his career? Or does he believe he’s best operating as a role player for a contending team? If he wants a starting job, the Timberwolves could consider adding him to pair with Karl-Anthony Towns in the front court.
Portis can stretch the floor, so he shouldn’t mess up the spacing in Minnesota’s offense. On top of that, he can play power forward or center, which would help create depth for the Timberwolves.
Jarred Vanderbilt and Naz Reid saw time as the starting power forward in Minnesota this season, but both of them may be better off the bench.

While the Timberwolves aren’t a team that will lure big-name free agents, they could pursue a player like Portis who now has experience in the NBA Finals.
