Gary Trent Jr.
The Toronto Raptors acquired Gary Trent Jr. at the NBA Trade Deadline from the Portland Trail Blazers. Along with Trent, Toronto acquired Rodney Hood and sent Norman Powell to Portland.
Trent is now entering restricted free agency and should be one of the most popular players in the free-agent market. At only 22-years old, teams are going to line up to offer him lucrative contracts. He fits any timeline, as he is young enough to grow with a young core but experienced enough to help even contending teams looking to get over the hump.
Gary Trent Jr. is a walking bucket as a legitimate 3-level scorer. He is a 39.3 percent 3-point shooter in his career and with improved shot selection will become an even more dangerous player. Standing 6’5” with a 6’9” wingspan, he can also be a difference-maker defensively with the ability to defend three positions.
That kind of versatility pays will pay a pretty penny for, but it will be for naught. With the ability to match any offer sheet that he signs, the Raptors will be the ones who re-sign Trent this offseason.
