Does this trade make sense for the Dallas Mavericks?
Kristaps Porzingis is a player that comes with baggage. He is injury prone because of his size and skillset. It is not natural for a 7-foot-3 forward to play like a guard at times. Along with his injury concerns, Porzingis is not causing issues with two teams in the front office.
Kristaps Porzingis is allegedly unhappy with his current position next to Luka Doncic. He does not feel like a star but a second fiddle instead. Doncic is one of the best players in the game and Porzingis has not been the No. 1 option.
If this is what he wants, he will not get that in Brooklyn but he will be able to compete for a championship. Dallas would be able to add some options around Doncic. Kyle Lowry is the team’s No. 1 priority in free agency, but if he signs elsewhere, they will need to pursue alternatives.
At point guard, Dinwiddie would be able to take over. Prior to his injury, Dinwiddie has proven that he is a starting-caliber guard. Harris just got paid last year but could be a big trade piece if the Nets want to move him after disappearing in the postseason. This would give Doncic another option on the perimeter.
