Does this trade make sense for the Washington Wizards?
The Washington Wizards have a gaping hole at their point guard position following the trade of Russell Westbrook to the Los Angeles Lakers. His backups, Ish Smith and Raul Neto, are both free agents this summer.
Washington did acquire Aaron Holiday from the Indiana Pacers, along with draft rights to Isaiah Todd, the 31st pick in the draft, in exchange for the No. 22 pick, who was Isaiah Jackson. Holiday is the only point guard that is on the Wizards roster right now, so targeting Spencer Dinwiddie makes sense.
Dinwiddie has also reportedly shown interest in joining Bradley Beal in Washington.
Dinwiddie would give the Wizards another scoring threat to help take pressure off of Beal and replace the points per game they are losing with Westbrook heading out west. Dinwiddie averaged 20.3 points per game with the Nets during the 2019-20 season, filling in admirably for Kyrie Irving.

Dinwiddie’s lack of floor spacing also wouldn’t hurt the Wizards, as they can surround him with some great shooters. Washington added arguably the best shooter in the draft in Corey Kispert with the No. 15 overall pick and has premier stretch-4 Davis Bertans already in the mix.
If Beal is committed to Washington, adding a player such as Dinwiddie is a good step in the right direction to upgrading the roster around their superstar player.
