Philadelphia 76ers Receive: G Malcolm Brogdon, G/F Jeremy Lamb, IND 2021 1st Round Pick (Pick #13), IND 2023 1st Round Pick (unprotected)
Indiana Pacers Receive: G/F Ben Simmons, PHI 2021 1st Round Pick (Pick #28)

A few weeks back, there were reports about the Indiana Pacers getting involved in Ben Simmons trade talks with a proposed offer that would send Malcolm Brogdon and a first-round pick to Philly in exchange for Simmons, which was first reported by Jason Dumas of KRON4 News.

Philadelphia apparently turned down this trade proposal, but if they are open to trading Ben Simmons this offseason, they should really revisit talks with the Pacers. Malcolm Brogdon is a terrific player and could contribute more to Philly’s chances of winning a title now than Simmons probably ever could.

In 56 games this year with the Pacers, Brogdon averaged 21.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.9 assists and shot 38.8% from three-point range. The former Rookie of the Year barely missed out on this year’s All-Star game, but overall, he had a terrific season as the Pacers’ primary ball-handler and facilitator.

With T.J. Warren being out for Indiana, Malcolm Brogdon stepped up for the Pacers and was a focal point for them on offense all season-long. At 28-years-old, Brogdon is still young enough where the Philadelphia 76ers could feel comfortable with his production for years to come and he is owed $44.3M over the next two seasons, which is very favorable given his production and value.

Jeremy Lamb is another interesting piece from the Pacers for the 76ers to add in this trade because he brings veteran experience with him to a team contending for a title. Lamb just finished up his 9th season in the league this year and shot a career-high 40.6% from three-point range. Adding another perimeter threat on the wing is highly advantageous to the Sixers, especially since they will need more shooting depth with Danny Green and Furkan Korkmaz being free agents.

Quite honestly, I am not really sure why the 76ers would turn down an offer like this because they get everything they need to try and hunt a championship. Malcolm Brogdon is more than capable of being the second/third option next to Joel Embiid in the 76ers’ offense and they would also gain the 13th pick in the draft, which they could use to bring in another talented player that can contribute immediately.

The Pacers are a team that is interested in Ben Simmons and if they are willing to give up Malcolm Brogdon, then the Sixers should really consider this offer. It is probably one of the better ones they will get for Simmons this offseason and Brogdon is a borderline All-Star player that can play championship-level basketball for many years to come.
