3 trade scenarios for Ben Simmons for Philadelphia 76ers to consider

Ben Simmons, Philadelphia 76ers, NBA Trade Rumors

Ben Simmons has been a main talking point so far this NBA offseason and for all of the wrong reasons. After being drafted first overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2016, a lot of heavy expectations were placed on the shoulders of the young 7-footer. While he did not play his first “true” season in the league due to a foot injury, Simmons made his “rookie debut” during the 2017-18 season and quickly became a focal point for the Sixers because of how he could impact the game.

Throughout his young career, Ben Simmons has been known as a “do-it-all” kind of player and a real triple-double threat each and every night. Standing 7-feet tall with the athleticism and ball-handling skills he possesses, there should be nobody in the league that is able to guard Simmons, but it seems like virtually everybody is able to guard him because he doesn’t really do much offensively.

Getting inside the paint and kicking the ball out is his specialty, which inflates his assist totals, but overall, Simmons is a very underwhelming offensive threat. In fact, during the playoffs, the Hawks exposed Ben Simmons and proved to everyone that he really is a non-factor on offense.

In this Eastern Conference Semifinals series, the 76ers were playing 4-on-5 at times on offense because Simmons really was not doing anything for them. He was not aggressive, he did not look to score and worst of all, he could not make a free-throw to save his team’s life. Ben Simmons shot 15-45 (33.3%) from the free-throw line in this series and for the playoffs, he shot 25-73 (34.2%) from the free-throw line.

Philadelphia was eliminated from the playoffs after being the 1-seed in the Eastern Conference and having title aspirations this year, which is why Ben Simmons trade talks have now escalated. While the 76ers do believe that he can be a key for them winning a championship and do still value him, many around the league are beginning to question if Simmons will be able to grow as a player on the offensive-end of the floor.

Now may be the right time for the 76ers to trade Ben Simmons, especially while they can still salvage a ton of value by trading him. After all, through four complete seasons in the league, Simmons is a 3x All-Star, a 2x All-Defensive performer, an All-NBA performer and was the 2017-18 Rookie of the Year.

He is a terrific defensive talent and a really strong facilitator for being 7-feet tall, but at the end of the day, the Philadelphia 76ers are in a position to contend for a title now and trading Ben Simmons could be their best bet at potentially reaching the NBA Finals within the next few years.

The Sixers have been adamant about trading Simmons this offseason, but they are interested in fielding calls for him, which is why they should consider one of these three trade packages if offered to them.
