Does this trade make sense for the Toronto Raptors?
The Toronto Raptors had a down year but that does not necessarily mean that they are in a rebuilding phase. The East is extremely top-heavy and there are plenty of teams near the bottom that can shoot up with a few moves. This is one of those moves that can get the Raptors another star and put them in a better position next season.
Gilgeous-Alexander is a young player who is taking the next step toward becoming a star. At 22 years old, he has shown that he can get it done in the office event and is a strong defender.
Vanvleet is your prototypical shooting guard. While he can play at the top, it would benefit Toronto to have him off the ball with another option running point.
Toronto lost some key pieces to the frontcourt last offseason and that could be a priority moving forward. With Lowry out, the point guard should take precedent.

Masai Ujiri always finds a way to rebuild this roster when they need it. Toronto is entering an important offseason and it will be interesting to see which direction the front office takes.
