Does this trade make sense for the Houston Rockets?
The Portland Trail Blazers might have no choice but to move Damian Lillard in the offseason. If he attempts to force his way out, the Blazers should pull the trigger rather than hanging onto a disgruntled player. This would be a hard pill to swallow but looking at the assets could make it a bit easier.
In this particular deal, Portland would really be loading up on draft picks. It will be interesting to see if they prioritize this over rotation-ready players that can help right away.
Wall would be the only player coming back in this deal. He will take over at the point-guard position and join McCallum in the backcourt. This would completely put the Trail Blazers in rebuilding mode since they would not be getting any more help in the lineup.
At the very least, Wall can serve as a stopgap option to help the Trail Blazers to remain competitive, or the team could pursue a buyout agreement if they were to undergo a complete teardown. There’s a variety of options either way.
