Phoenix Suns Receive: G Jalen Brunson
Dallas Mavericks Receive: F/C Jalen Smith, No. 29 pick
The Phoenix Suns have great depth off the bench and that includes the point-guard position. They could be in search of another one this offseason. Jalen Brunson immediately comes to mind. He has played valuable minutes for the Dallas Mavericks and even has experience in a starting role.
In return, the Mavericks will receive Jalen Smith and the 29th pick in the upcoming draft. Dallas could have their eyes on some bigger deals but this is one that would continue to build assets moving forward.
Both of the Suns’ point guards, Chris Paul and Cameron Payne, will enter free agency this offseason. It will be a challenge for Phoenix to retain both of them. given how successful of a season they each put together. Making a move for Jalen Brunson would help
The Suns would not have to worry about handing a major contract extension to Brunson this offseason. Phoenix would have a solid backup option if Paul were to depart.

As for the Mavericks, there isn’t a need to overpay to keep Brunson next offseason if the team does not truly feel as though he is the answer next to Luka Doncic. Gaining value for him now would be an intriguing option, especially a stretch-big like Jalen Smith.
