Does this trade make sense for the Oklahoma City Thunder?
The Oklahoma City Thunder have based their plan around young players and draft capital. To this point, they are still years away from competing and could look to keep that same trend in mind moving forward. This is a deal to keep them on the same path by adding another promising young player.
Cam Reddish showed some prowess, especially from beyond the arc, in the postseason but did not have that extended role. Coming out of Duke, Reddish was one of the top prospects and has yet to take that step at the NBA level.
The Thunder will likely end up with a wing player in the 2021 NBA Draft using the No. 6 selection, if they do not end up making an aggressive trade up. It would be worthwhile to take a chance on Reddish to further solidify the team’s talent around Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with high upside talents.
Much of what Reddish is tasked to do in Atlanta is to space the floor and play off-the-catch. He would receive more opportunity to run high pick-and-rolls or just generally be a more featured element of his team’s half-court offense with the Thunder in ways he is not with the Hawks.

The Thunder would not have to give up much in this deal so that is an immediate benefit. This is one of the times they can add an intriguing prospect while hanging onto their future assets.
