Does this trade make sense for the Los Angeles Lakers?
The Los Angeles Lakers have a big hole currently at their point guard position. Dennis Schroder and Alex Caruso are both free agents this summer, so they will need to fill those spots if they are unable to retain them.
Of the two, Caruso seems likeliest to come back. Schroder already declined a four-year extension worth more than $80 million. Caruso would assume his role as a 3-and-D guy off the bench but with a raise from Los Angeles.
Lowry would be a big upgrade on Schroder despite being more than seven years older. His 3-point shooting would be a great addition to a team that was in the bottom third of the NBA in all of the 3-point shooting stats; the Washington Wizards were the only playoff team that had worse numbers from distance.
The playmaking he provides would also take pressure off of LeBron James, who too often was carrying the load as the sole ball-handler on the court. Defensively, Lowry is still as tenacious as ever and would fit in seamlessly with the Lakers’ excellent defensive-rated team.

Adding a third star behind James and Anthony Davis would keep the Lakers among the favorites to win an NBA championship next year. That third player being the caliber that Lowry is would make them a very difficult team to defeat in a playoff series.
