Kyle Lowry
The Miami Heat aggressively pursued Kyle Lowry ahead of the NBA trade deadline when the Toronto Raptors fielded offers. Ultimately, no deal was ever made, but that may actually work out in Miami’s favor.
Instead of surrendering assets to land Lowry for the second half of the 2020-21 season, they can now sign him in free agency and have all of the same assets to use in other trades or strengthen their own roster.
Kyle Lowry would make for a great backcourt pairing alongside Jimmy Butler. He would alleviate a lot of the scoring and playmaking pressure that falls upon Butler’s shoulders in the starting five. Eric Spoelstra would be able to run the offense through him whenever Butler is resting on the bench.
Defensively, there wouldn’t be many backcourts in the league that could compare to Lowry and Butler. They would terrorize opposing backcourts night in and night out, slowing things down at the point of attack.

The playoff and championship experience that Kyle Lowry would bring to Miami is also important. He knows what it takes to get over the hump that Miami fell just short of in 2020.
