New York Knicks
There is arguably not a team in the NBA that needs a point guard as badly as the New York Knicks. They went 41-31 with Elfrid Payton starting a majority of the teams at the point guard spot for the team; imagine what they could accomplish with an upgrade there?
While Dejounte Murray isn’t the splashy, big-name player some people are hoping takes over at point guard for the Knicks, he would cost a fraction of what those players would to land. Keeping some of their assets and salary-cap flexibility is key for a Knicks team that is attempting to build a sustained winner.
Murray has improved his points per possession mark during the 2020-21 season, as his efficiency and volume both increased. He limited his turnovers more as well, which is a good sign that another leap could be coming offensively.
When he attacks the rim, he finishes with efficiency as well. During the 2020-21 season, Murray converted 64.9 percent of his attempts at the rim, making 121 out of his 191 shots. Payton, for comparison, made 132 out of his 230 attempts for a percentage of 57.4. While he didn’t attack as frequently, Murray would be a huge upgrade efficiency-wise and would be a massive improvement when it comes to mid-range attempts.

Tom Thibodeau wants his point guards to get downhill and attack the basket. It is something that Murray has shown he can do with success, making him a good fit for the Knicks should they be able to land him in a trade.
