After making the NBA Finals for five consecutive years from 2015-2019, the Golden State Warriors find themselves looking to add more talent this offseason after missing the playoffs for back-to-back seasons now. Injuries have really hurt their chances of being special, but the 2021-22 season will be a very important season for the Warriors.

Having Stepen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green all healthy and on the court with others in James Wiseman and Andrew Wiggins, the Warriors will definitely be considered a formidable force in the Western Conference, but they still seem to want to make one more big move in order to truly cement themselves as one of the “teams to beat” in the West.

Adding Collin Sexton would certainly be a statement move for the Warriors that gives them more talent to contend for a championship. If they were able to pull off a trade for Sexton and bring him off-the-bench behind Curry and Thompson, Golden State would have a very powerful rotation, as well as another young player on their roster.

The only catch with Sexton is that he is in the final year of his contract and given the Warriors’ financial problems right now, it seems highly unlikely that they would want to give him a long-term deal. Thus, they would essentially be trading for a “one-year loan” of Collin Sexton.

From the Cleveland Cavaliers perspective, trading Sexton is definitely not ideal, but they could potentially add 2-3 key assets for the price of one. Getting Kevon Looney and Jordan Poole both have its advantages for the Cavs, but getting the 7th pick in the draft is even more valuable than imagined.

Cleveland is one of a few teams who have expressed interest in possibly trading for Detroit’s No. 1 overall pick and with the 3rd and potentially the 7th picks, the Cavaliers could have the Pistons would want for their first pick. This trade could be enough for the Cavaliers to flip picks and players around to end up with Cade Cunningham, hence why they could be open to trading Collin Sexton.

A lot would need to be sorted out ahead of time for the Cavs if this is indeed their plan, but overall, there are some parts of this trade that benefit both teams. With this said, let’s take a look at if this trade truly makes sense for both the Warriors and Cavaliers.
