Point guard Derrick Rose was acquired by the New York Knicks from the Detroit Pistons during the 2020-21 regular season. New York acquired the former NBA MVP in exchange for Dennis Smith Jr. and a future second-round pick.
While some people were unsure of how the trade would play out, it was a great deal for the Knicks.
Rose carried over the same great play he was providing off the Pistons bench to New York City. He showed some of his vintage burst offensively, as opposing teams are still struggling to keep him out of the paint.
Rose averaged 14.9 points, 4.2 assists and 2.9 rebounds in 26.8 minutes per game for New York in the regular season, appearing in 35 games. He was even better in the postseason, averaging 19.4 points, 5.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 35 minutes per game. He took over the starting point guard role from Elfrid Payton as well.
