The year was 2006 and the Sacramento Kings, led by Mike Bibby, Metta World Peace (a.k.a. Ron Artest) and Brad Miller, were in the NBA playoffs as the 8-seed in the Western Conference. They did win a couple of games against the San Antonio Spurs, but they wound up losing this first-round series 4-2.

This was the last time the Sacramento Kings were in the playoffs and this was the last time this franchise had a winning record. For years now, Sacramento has been one of the “laughing stocks” of the entire NBA and they just have not been able to sustain the little bit of success they find here and there.

Isaiah Thomas, Rudy Gay and DeMarcus Cousins are all bigger names that have played in Sacramento over the last decade or so, yet none of them have stayed to try and help this franchise get back to the playoffs. There is no stability within the Kings organization right now, which is why they have consistently finished near the bottom of the league standings.

However, they have not been terrible over the last two seasons. The Kings have gone 31-41 for two consecutive years now and with De’Aaron Fox being their young leader, they actually look like they could be trending in the right direction.

The Kings need to make a move somewhat quickly to bring in another big-time talent because as of right now, they are really thin in terms of having reliable contributors. Fox and Haliburton are a really solid, young backcourt duo and they have other options in Harrison Barnes, Buddy Hield, Marvin Bagley III and Richaun Holmes, but all four of these guy’s futures are up-in-the-air at this point.

According to Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee, the Kings are one of a handful of teams that have contacted the Philadelphia 76ers about trading for Ben Simmons and they do have a handful of assets they could offer up to the Sixers.

Could the Kings be the team that winds up trading for Simmons this offseason amidst all of the rumors swirling around Philly? Let’s take a look at the best trade the Sacramento Kings could offer the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Ben Simmons.
