For years, the Detroit Pistons have been looking to rebuild themselves back into a contender in the Eastern Conference, but they have had trouble doing so. With just two playoff appearances since the 2009-10 season, Detroit has found themselves as a bottom-tier franchise in the NBA for a while now, but things are starting to change for this organization.

Getting Blake Griffin off of their roster and books was a big step in the right direction for the Pistons, as was signing Jerami Grant last offseason. Grant went on to have a breakout 2020-21 season and looks to be the leader of their “team of the future” now.

With other young talents in Saddiq Bey, Isaiah Stewart and Killian Hayes, the future is definitely bright for the Pistons andi s only going to get brighter with the #1 pick in this year’s draft.

For the first-time since 1970, the Detroit Pistons will own the rights to the 1st overall pick in the NBA Draft and in 1970, they took a pretty good player by the name of Bob Lanier out of St. Bonaventure. Lanier went on to spend 10 seasons in Detroit and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1992.

Being able to potentially draft another perennial All-Star and potentially a future Hall-of-Famer could do wonders for the Detroit Pistons, but they are open to trading down in the draft.

The Pistons would obviously be more than happy selecting first overall, but they have been fielding interest in the No. 1 overall pick and taking trade calls from various teams around the league. It has become one of the top storylines to watch in rumors around the NBA.

Cade Cunningham out of Oklahoma State seems to be the “locked-in” first overall pick this year, but the Pistons are reportedly very high on Jalen Green from the G-League as well. Green skipped playing collegiate basketball and instead joined the G-League Ignite team to showcase his talents this past year.

The young G-League phenom is expected to be the next player after Cunningham selected, so could the Pistons potentially look to trade down to grab him instead of Cade Cunningham? Could Detroit possibly even trade down even further in the draft to gain more future assets and young talents?

Let’s take a look at three trade packages for the No. 1 overall pick that the Detroit Pistons should strongly consider if these trades were offered to them.
