Back in the 2019 NBA offseason, the Los Angeles Lakers made a blockbuster trade with the New Orleans Pelicans to acquire Anthony Davis. In the process of doing so, they traded away Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, Lonzo Ball, three first-round picks, and a first-round pick swap.
Lonzo Ball was drafted 2nd overall in 2017 by the Los Angeles Lakers and was expected to be one of the faces of the franchise for years to come, but they traded him away to win a championship in 2020. Now, Ball is a restricted free agent and is coming off his best season statistically as a pro.
In 55 games with the Pelicans this year, Lonzo averaged 14.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 1.5 steals and shot 37.8% from three-point range, a new career-high shooting percentage. His ability to do a little bit of everything is why Lonzo Ball is regarded as one of the more valuable free agents this offseason at the point guard position.
LeBron James and Anthony Davis fell short of winning back-to-back titles this year due to injuries and the Lakers will be searching for ways to get their two superstars more talent. Could Lonzo Ball be a player on their radar at the point guard position?

Dennis Schroder is a free agent and his asking price seems way too high for the Lakers to offer, so bringing back their former 2nd overall pick definitely makes sense given their need for a young backcourt talent. The only question that remains is if the New Orleans Pelicans will be willing to give their young point guard up.
Let’s take a look at a possible sign-and-trade this offseason involving Lonzo Ball going back to the bright lights of Los Angeles to once again put on the purple and gold.
