The Indiana Pacers entered the 2020-21 NBA season with high hopes. There was optimism surrounding a strong roster and new head coach Nate Bjorkgren, who was replacing Nate McMillan on the sidelines. Things, unfortunately, did not go as planned.
The Pacers missed the postseason for the first time since 2015. While Indiana hasn’t had any success in the playoffs, missing them was still not ideal, as they lost to the Washington Wizards in the NBA Play-In Tournament.
That, along with poor communication throughout the season, led to Bjorkgren being fired after one season on the job. Now, former head coach Rick Carlisle is taking over the reins again, which has people excited about the direction of the franchise once again.
The head coaching change will not be the only moves the franchise makes this offseason. They are close to the tax line, something they would assuredly like to avoid since they do not yet have a championship-contending roster.
