For years now, the Sacramento Kings have been looking to break their “playoff curse,” yet they have now missed the playoffs for 15 consecutive NBA seasons. De’Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton make up a young, highly-talented backcourt for the Kings, but there are a lot of question marks surrounding this team heading into the offseason.

Richaun Holmes is a free agent that the Kings cannot afford to lose, Marvin Bagley III seems to be frustrated with his role and in entering the final year of his contract, and there are constantly trade rumors circulating around Harrison Barnes and Buddy Hield.

There seems to be no stability within this Kings organization right now and there has been none for years now. Some very talented players have come and gone from Sacramento and none of them were ever able to change this franchise’s fortunes.

Building with Fox and Haliburton for the future, it would appear that everybody else on this Kings’ roster is somewhat expendable, which is why Sacramento may finally look at trade proposals in the offseason for Buddy Hield. His name has surfaced in NBA trade rumors at times but now appears to be a better time than ever to get a deal done.

The 28-year-old sharpshooter has three years and $61.5M remaining on his contract, which is not necessarily ideal, but he could definitely help elevate a team on the verge of making the playoffs into the actual playoff picture.

Hield started his career with the New Orleans Pelicans and they could be interested in a possible reunion. They drafted Buddy Hield 6th overall in 2016 and the Pelicans could really use some shooting depth on the wing, which is why they could target the Kings’ perimeter threat.

Sacramento is in a tough position right now because not only do they need talent to build for the future, but they need to have enough cap space to retain some of their current young talents.

Guys like Richaun Holmes and Marvin Bagley III could be key contributors for years to come next to Fox and Haliburton, but the Kings will need enough cap space to keep both of them, something they do not currently have.

Could the Sacramento Kings actually look to move some pieces around this offseason and trade Buddy Hield prior to the NBA Draft on July 29? Let’s take a look at what the Pelicans could potentially offer up in exchange for Hield.
