Does this trade make sense for the Chicago Bulls?
It is no secret that the Chicago Bulls will be searching for backcourt talent thi offseason, especially with Coby White being out indefinitely. White suffered a labrum injury in his left shoulder last month and underwent successful shoulder repair surgery on June 10.
The timetable for his return was said to be 4-6 months, meaning that no matter what, Coby White will miss the start of the 2021-22 season. He could be back at some point in October, but it is sounding more and more like White will not return to the court for the Bulls until sometime in December.
Tomas Satoransky is the only other point guard on this Bulls roster right now, which is why they will be aggressive in their hunt for adding backcourt talent this offseason.
Guys like Kyle Lowry, Lonzo Ball and Spencer Dinwiddie are all options for Chicago to target in free agency, but trading for a guy like Fred VanVleet brings a lot of perks to the Bulls.

Not only is he an established two-way guard, but trading for him with this outlined proposal gives the Bulls a way to get rid of Lauri Markkanen without just losing him to free agency.
They do not really need him anymore, but trading Markkanen in a sign-and-trade deal for VanVleet would be the perfect opportunity for the Bulls to add backcourt help while also leveraging Markkanen.
Chicago needs something to go their way for once and getting Fred VanVleet would certainly throw them in the conversation to be a sure-thing playoff team next year. They have the assets to be able to acquire VanVleet, the only question is if the Raptors would be willing to part ways with him.
