Obi Toppin is traded
Entering the 2020 NBA Draft, the Knicks held the No. 8 overall pick in the first round. It was unknown what New York was planning on doing with the pick, only for them to select Obi Toppin.
Toppin was an athletic forward in college, but the rest of his game was still developing. In his rookie season with the Knicks, Toppin saw a minimal role for the majority of the year due to playing behind Julius Randle and Taj Gibson, averaging just 4.1 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.
Some may believe Toppin evolves into a starter for New York, but why not offer him to teams for a proven player?
The Knicks desperately need players that can help them make a deeper push in the playoffs, and Toppin — unless he gets vastly better in the offseason — doesn’t do that for them right now.

With big-name players possibly on the trade market in the coming months, Toppin ends up being traded just one year after being selected by the Knicks in the 2020 NBA Draft.
