The 2021 offseason has already been an eventful one for the Boston Celtics and we haven’t even gotten to the NBA Draft yet. The Celtics have already reconfigured their brain trust, as the front office and coaching staff are different from the ones that were in place when the Brooklyn Nets eliminated the Celtics in the first round of the 2021 NBA Playoffs.

Danny Ainge, who was president and general manager, stepped down from his position. Brad Stevens, who was the head coach at the time, has moved to the front office. Ime Udoka was hired as head coach to take over for Stevens.

Boston has even made a trade already, as they sent Kemba Walker to the Oklahoma City Thunder. They attached their 2021 first round pick to Walker, along with a 2025 second rounder, and brought back Moses Brown, Al Horford and a 2023 second round pick.

Ownership wants to shake things up this offseason to get the team back in contention in the Eastern Conference. It began with Walker, could his backcourt mate in Marcus Smart also be on the move?

Outside of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, who won’t be moved outside of blockbuster deals, Smart is arguably the best asset the Boston Celtics have. He is a hard-nosed defender, can do some playmaking and can knock down some 3-pointers.

There are plenty of teams that could use a player of Smart’s caliber. If the Boston Celtics do indeed move him, these are three perfect trade destinations for the former Oklahoma State product.
