The 2021 NBA Draft is just about three weeks away and things are heating up in terms of potential trade talks and which teams want which prospects. Every year, we see teams moving around in the draft, trying to find the next superstar, but we especially see this with teams sitting at the top of the draft board.

This year, the Detroit Pistons have the #1 overall pick and as things stand right now, they have a lot of options on what they could do. Cade Cunningham is the presumable #1 overall pick, but the Pistons also have their eyes on other prospects as well.

Sources have told NBA Analysis Network that Detroit is very high on Cade Cunningham, but they are also very high on Jalen Green (G-League), Evan Mobley (USC) and even Jonathan Kuminga (G-League). Kuminga is a secondary thought compared to the first two guys, but all four of these draft prospects all possess All-Star potential.

Just because Cunningham is the top listed prospect by many that cover the draft, this does not mean that the Detroit Pistons will or have to take him first overall. They could easily go with a guy like Jalen Green or Evan Mobley, who would definitely be in consideration for the first overall pick if they were in a different draft class.

Detroit has a lot of options in terms of who they could draft, but if they decide they do not want Cade Cunningham, then they could entertain the idea of trading down in the draft out of the #1 overall pick. ESPN’s Jonathan Givony reported Wednesday that trade talks with the Pistons are at an “early stage,” but Givony did mention that the Pistons will definitely entertain the idea of trading down.

One of the many teams that would like to move up and possibly grab this first overall selection would be the Oklahoma City Thunder and they have a plethora of assets. The Thunder own 38 draft picks through the 2027 NBA Draft and could put together any kind of trade package involving draft picks that the Pistons would want.

Who knows what this trade proposal by OKC for the 1st overall pick could include, but let’s take a look at a trade that would give the Oklahoma City Thunder the first overall selection in the 2021 NBA Draft to presumably draft Cade Cunningham.
