The Dallas Mavericks are a team that will definitely be interested in making some intriguing moves this NBA offseason. With Luka Doncic at the helm of their long-term plans, Dallas is set up for a lot of success, but they need to be able to make the correct moves to surround him with more talent.
This year, the Mavs made the playoffs for the second consecutive year with Doncic leading things, but they ultimately fell to the Los Angeles Clippers in the first-round due to their lack of overall talent. Tim Hardaway Jr. stepped up for the Mavericks, but they really do not have many threats compared to other teams in the Western Conference.
Kristaps Porzingis was supposed to be this “No. 2 guy” next to Luka as Dallas built for the future, but now they are questioning whether or not Porzingis can be a long-term building block. He was very underwhelming in the playoffs and really does not bring much to the table as a 7’3” big man that should have no problems scoring in the paint.
Unfortunately, Porzingis tends to stay away from contact and is rarely using his size to his advantage, leaving the Mavericks exposed in the paint on both ends of the court. Targeting a center could be in their plans this offseason, which is why Jarrett Allen is a name to watch.

The 23-year-old center is a restricted free agent this year and the Mavericks reportedly have interest in him. They could look to sign him in free agency, but with Tim Hardaway Jr. also being a free agent, Dallas would probably set themselves up for more success if they were able to get Allen via a sign-and-trade with Cleveland.
What would they have to give up though to acquire the young, versatile big man? Let’s take a look at an offseason trade between the Dallas Mavericks and Cleveland Cavaliers that would send Jarrett Allen to Dallas via a sign-and-trade.
