3 teams who could consider signing Andre Drummond in NBA free agency

The 2020-21 NBA season was a roller coaster ride for Andre Drummond. He began the season with the Cleveland Cavaliers and was putting up some gaudy stats, averaging 17.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.1 blocks in 28.9 minutes per game. He looked like the center of the future for the franchise until the James Harden blockbuster occurred.

In the four-team deal that involved the Cavaliers, Brooklyn Nets, Houston Rockets and Indiana Pacers, Cleveland landed young center, Jarrett Allen. Shortly after that, Drummond found himself out of the lineup as the team looked for a trade to send him out of town.

The team depressed his trade value, which was already quite low, reporting that his attitude was as much a reason for his benching as anything.

A trade partner was never found, as Drummond remained sidelined from February 14th through March 31st. That night is when Drummond made his debut with the Los Angeles Lakers, who signed the big man after he and the Cavaliers agreed to a contract buyout on March 26th.

While he was productive once again on the stat sheet, averaging 11.9 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.0 blocks in only 24.8 minutes per game in the regular season, he was ultimately benched in the postseason as the Lakers were eliminated by the Phoenix Suns in the first round.

Andre Drummond produces great stats, but winning rarely comes from it. Finding a fit for a throwback center like him is difficult, but these three teams should consider signing Drummond in NBA free agency.
