Does this trade make sense for the Charlotte Hornets?
The Charlotte Hornets added Gordon Hayward last offseason and gave him a massive deal. They would have to move this if they want to add Ben Simmons and his contract. Hayward continued to miss some time with injuries and the Hornets could be looking to add a more reliable player when it comes to durability.
The Hornets have their stars of the future in the backcourt. LaMelo Ball and Terry Rozier are proven commodities along with Devonte’ Graham. They would be able to move Simmons to a new position.
Simmons would not be asked to score at a high rate. This would allow him to focus on getting teammates involved and defending at a high rate. He cannot go to a team that is looking for a primary scorer. That is not what Simmons is and it is looking like he will never be that player.
With that being said, Simmons is still valuable and could help the Hornets compete in the Eastern Conference. This a team that sorely needs to improve defensively and while they’d still need a rim protector, adding an impactful wing defender would go a long way.
