Tyler Herro

Prediction: Gets traded to a new team

The Miami Heat were perhaps the most disappointing team in all of this year’s playoffs. After having pulled off an impressive run to the 2020 NBA Finals, the team failed to even win a single game in their first-round series against the Milwaukee Bucks. Changes are expected to take place. Could a Tyler Herro trade be among them?

One of the key reasons the Miami Heat came up short was that Tyler Herro did not end up having the breakout campaign that many had thought he was going to have following up his impressive display in the NBA Bubble. Not filling the top co-star role alongside Jimmy Butler proved to leave the team without the necessary firepower to get the job done.

According to 5 Reasons Sports Network’s Ethan J. Skolnick, he has heard there is a ’75 percent chance’ that Tyler Herro is traded in the offseason.

“I have now heard that there is a 75 percent chance or better that he is traded this offseason,” said Ethan Skolnick on Herro. “In fact, when I’ve thrown out 75 percent to several league sources, they’ve told me that’s low.”

The points that Skolnick raised about Herro simply not being on the same timeline as Jimmy Butler are valid. If the Heat remain intent on winning with Butler as the franchise-player, it’s vital they make an aggressive move in order to field the necessary supporting cast to get the job done.

There are questions, of course, about whether Jimmy Butler is actually worth building around long-term given he is going to command a massive contract extension and will soon be 32-years-old. He was rendered largely ineffective in this year’s playoffs and the team already has to pay massive money to keep ke players like Duncan Robinson and Kendrick Nunn if they wish to do so.

At this time, there is little reason to believe that the Miami Heat will look to shift course toward building around Bam Adebayo in favor of Jimmy Butler. The fact still remains that Tyler Herro is the team’s only real asset and teams who are building long-term like the New Orleans Pelicans (as our own Evan Massey reported) could be intrigued.
