The Los Angeles Lakers are heading into the NBA offseason knowing that they need to improve their roster. They are also going to have quite a few decisions to make on current players set to hit the free agency market. LeBron James and Anthony Davis missed big chunks of the 2020-21 NBA season due to injury and the team around them was unable to step up and lead the team in their absence.
Looking ahead to free agency, this is not an offseason full of big names. However, there are quite a few players that the Lakers could consider pursuing.
Right now, the Lakers are slated to have quite a few of their own players hitting the open market. Montrezl Harrell has a $9 million player option for next season, but no one truly knows what he will choose to do. Among the other free agents on the roster are Alex Caruso, Dennis Schroder, Wesley Matthews, Talen Horton-Tucker, Ben McLemore, Markieff Morris, Andre Drummond, and Jared Dudley.
So far, reports have come out that the Lakers would like to keep Drummond and Morris if possible. They would also likely prefer to keep Horton-Tucker and Caruso.
All of that being said, let’s take a deeper look at one free agent that the Lakers must consider targeting this offseason. To give a hint, this free agent is not someone currently on the Lakers’ roster.
