Once again, the Minnesota Timberwolves find themselves entering the offseason asking “what’s next?” Minnesota failed to reach the postseason for the third consecutive NBA season and they finished with a 23-49 record, improving 4 games win-wise from last season.
Success has been hard to come by for the Timberwolves over the years, which is why their front-office may be eager to “shake things up” in the offseason. They traded for D’Angelo Russell at the NBA trade deadline last season and granted he was hurt for most of this season, this has not seemed to work out well.
Between injuries and young talents not turning out to fit well in their system, Minnesota is on the verge of total collapse as a franchise, which is why they need to make a “splash” in the league sooner than later. Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards are two No. 1 overall picks that the Timberwolves want to build with for the future, but could they look to leverage Towns this summer?
He has three years remaining on his contract and at 25-years-old, Towns is entering the prime of his career, which makes his value as high as it will be. The Timberwolves could really capitalize value-wise on trading Karl-Anthony Towns, which is why they could possibly trade him to a team they are used to making deals with.
