Back in the late 2000’s, early 2010’s, the Orlando Magic were considered a real, legit threat in the Eastern Conference every single year. Dwight Howard and Co. were dominant in the Eastern Conference during this time and they even made it to the NBA Finals in 2009, only to lose to Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Since 2012 though, things have been going downhill for the Magic and they have had to hit the reset button numerous times. In the last 9 seasons, they have had a winning record just once, which is why they have decided to start over yet again.

Orlando traded away Nikola Vucevic, Aaron Gordon and Evan Fournier at the NBA trade deadline this season and they also parted ways with Steve Clifford after just three seasons with the team.

Clifford is definitely not the guy to blame for the Magic’s misfortunes over the years, as he coached them to a respectable 96-131 record, which is not terrible given their lack of talent.

With the Orlando Magic rebuilding yet again, they could look to make some more moves in the offseason for more young talents. They have guys like Markelle Fultz, Cole Anthony, Jonathan Isaac and others that they plan on building with, but the Magic own the 5th and 8th picks in this year’s draft, which could be useful to some other teams.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been a name floating around in NBA trade rumors recently and while the Oklahoma City Thunder do not want to trade their young guard whatsoever, the Magic could look to put together an enticing trade package to possibly acquire him.

This is strictly hypothetical, but let’s take a look at an NBA trade scenario featuring Shai Gilgeous-Alexander that features the Orlando Magic and Oklahoma City Thunder.
