Over the years, the Toronto Raptors have been one of the most dominant teams in the entire NBA and they have a championship in 2019 to prove it. Since the 2012-13 season, the Raptors have posted 435 total wins, which is the 4th most wins in the entire league, trailing just the Warriors (474), Spurs (463) and Clippers (459).

Led by Kyle Lowry, Toronto has consistently been to the playoffs and have posted 50-wins seasons, but that all changed this year as they dealt with not just injuries, but players being in and out of health protocols.

The pandemic really hit the Raptors hard at times this year and with all of the lineup changes throughout the course of the 2020-21 season, this team was just never able to get a grip on the season at hand. As a result, they finished 27-45, their worst record since the 2011-12 season, and they missed the playoffs for the first-time since 2013.

Now, with Lowry being an unrestricted free agent, this team not having a solidified #1 star on their team and a lot of problems to fix in terms of their rotations, is the “golden era” in Toronto finally coming to an end? Maybe so, but Masai Ujiri is one of the best executives in the league and he is going to do everything he can to keep this team near the top of the NBA’s power rankings.

As a result, the Raptors have a chance to be one of the most aggressive teams this offseason and will be an organization to watch in NBA trade rumors as a result. Having the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft definitely helps them, but as does having a ton of assets on their roster that could be appealing to other teams.

While they have problems in their frontcourt, the Raptors will need to focus on their backcourt this offseason, especially if they are not going to be bringing back Kyle Lowry. It would be smart for them to target a young guard in the draft, but there is also the potential of targeting a young talent like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

The young guard on the Thunder was having a terrific start to the 2020-21 season before suffering a season-ending foot injury. Oklahoma City really likes what they have in SGA and are looking to build around him for the future, but could Toronto look to target him in a potential trade?
