Does this trade make sense for the Oklahoma City Thunder?
The Oklahoma City Thunder have a decision to make regarding Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. He is a blossoming star but if they do not believe he will be around long term, it makes sense to move him this offseason. When the time comes, there could be many offers on the table for a player of his caliber.
Presti has loaded up on assets and young players within the organization. The Thunder had the year that was expected this season and now it is time to turn things around if possible.
If Gilgeous-Alexander gets this kind of return, it would make sense to make the move. Michael Porter Jr. is a player to build around and he has shown that now that he is healthy. The Thunder would continue to load up on draft picks and other players that could be moved in potential deals.
There isn’t really a need for the Thunder to be moving on from Gilgeous-Alexander. He’s only going to be 23-years-old in July and the team can re-sign him in restricted free agency. However, will he remain content despite the team’s long-term rebuilding efforts?
