Does this trade make sense for the Portland Trail Blazers?
The only way Portland trades Damian Lillard is if he personally requests a trade. This is not something they are actively trying to do in the offseason and quite honestly, all of this speculation may just be talk.
Lillard has always voiced his pleasures of leading the Trail Blazers and has always said he wants to remain in Portland for his entire career, so will he actually request a trade? It is possible and if he does, this trade with Miami may not be terrible for the Blazers.
Tyler Herro is not the All-Star potential talent that the Heat make him out to be, but he is definitely a guy that can come in and contribute immediately, as is Bam Adebayo. He is an All-Star proven center that is great defensively, which is an area on the court that Portland really needs to improve in.
Acquiring Adebayo also gives Portland the opportunity to possibly trade Jusef Nurkic. The Bosnian big man is in the final year of his contract and could actually be an affordable trade asset for some teams around the league, which is why the Blazers could look to leverage him to gain more talent to put around McCollum and Adebayo after making this trade with Miami.

Plus, the Blazers would have plenty of future draft assets that they could also leverage in order to get even more talent on their roster. Trading Damian Lillard is definitely not ideal by any standards, but in the end, there are still avenues for the Blazers to move on and build a contending team without him.
