Even though the playoffs are still going on and we have yet to crown a new champion, the offseason has already begun, which means NBA trade rumors are out of control! Every offseason, we see hypothetical trade rumors including some of the league’s best stars and so far this year, we have seen plenty involving Damian Lillard.
Wait a second, did I just say Damian Lillard, the guy who has said time and time again that he wants to retire in a Trail Blazers uniform? Yep, that is the guy! Lillard is one of the best pure talents in the entire league and is always in the running for the MVP award each year, but things may be starting to get “dicey” up in Portland.
They moved on from head coach Terry Stotts this offseason after nine years with the franchise and they recently appointed former Finals MVP and 5x All-Star Chauncey Billups as their new head coach. Billups had been serving as an assistant coach for the Clippers under head coach Tyronn Lue.
Billups, along with Jason Kidd, was one of the guys that Damian Lillard reportedly wanted to take over the head coaching position in Portland, but now, reports are surfacing about Lillard being “unhappy and unsettled” with the Blazers’ current situation. According to Chris Hayes of Yahoo Sports, Lillard has remained loyal to Portland throughout the last several weeks, but he has begun questioning whether or not this organization can build themselves into a championship contender.
With rumors swirling about Lillard potentially wanting out and to move on with his career elsewhere, NBA fans have begun photoshopping the NBA star in their favorite team’s uniforms. This is all fun and games right now, but if Damian Lillard does ask Portland for a trade, almost every other team in the league will be on the phone trying to acquire him.
Every team wants Lillard for obvious reasons, but sources tell NBA Analysis Network that the Miami Heat are a “sneaky” team to watch in trade talks with Portland. They have a proven culture of winning championships and are in a great situation for Lillard to potentially join and immediately contend for a title.
Could Miami actually pull off one of the biggest deals in NBA history by acquiring Damian Lillard this offseason? Let’s take a look at the best trade that they could potentially offer the Portland Trail Blazers this summer for the 6x All-Star.
