The Los Angeles Lakers are entering a very important offseason following their disappointing loss in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. LeBron James and Anthony Davis struggled with injuries for most of the season and it became clear that the franchise needs to focus on adding more talent around them. At this point in time, the Lakers should strongly try to sign veteran star point guard Derrick Rose in free agency.
Rose has been connected to the Lakers over the last couple of years. However, the Lakers have been unable to get a deal done with him.
This offseason, the Lakers are going to be searching for a new point guard. Dennis Schroder was acquired last offseason, but he did not fit like the team was hoping. He is set to hit free agency this offseason and no one expects the Lakers to bring him back.
During the 2020-21 NBA season split between the Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks, Rose put up good numbers. He showed that he still has a lot of good basketball left in him. Rose ended up averaging 14.7 points per game to go along with 4.2 assists and 2.6 rebounds, while shooting 47 percent from the floor overall and he knocked down 38.8 percent of his three-point attempts.
With the way that Rose helped the Knicks make an impressive run to the No. 4 seed in the East, the Lakers could benefit greatly from signing him. Los Angeles has to bring in more impact players to take pressure off of James and Davis.
All of that being said, let’s dive in and take a look at three reasons the Lakers should try to sign Derrick Rose this offseason in NBA free agency.
