Winner: Orlando Magic

At the NBA trade deadline this year, the Magic traded away Nikola Vucevic, Evan Fournier and Aaron Gordon, setting themselves up for what looked to be another long rebuild. However, with two Top-8 picks in the 2021 NBA Draft following the lottery, Orlando could be set up for a quicker rebuild than imagined.

They have a solid backcourt tandem of Markelle Fultz and Cole Anthony, plus the Magic have Jonathan Isaac and Wendell Carter Jr. in their frontcourt, so things may not be terrible for Orlando during the 2021-22 season.

Sure, the Magic may not be a playoff threat, but overall, they have a bunch of young talents on their roster and they will be adding two more via the draft this year.

Ending up with the 5th pick in the draft after sharing the best odds for the #1 overall pick with the Rockets and Pistons may not be ideal, but Orlando did get Chicago’s pick that conveyed over from the Nikola Vucevic trade, so they got exactly what they wanted in the lottery by getting two lottery picks.

The Magic would have loved to add a guy like Cade Cunningham and maybe even a guy like Jalen Green, but at the end of the day, they are still in line to draft two highly talented players at 5th and 8th overall.

Everybody always wants to get the #1 pick and not fall out of the Top-4 like the Magic ended up doing on Tuesday night, but ending up with Chicago’s pick was the ultimate goal of the Orlando Magic. While this situation is not the most ideal one, the Magic are going to be more than happy with where they are sitting in the draft.
