3 teams who could look to sign Mike Conley away from the Jazz this offseason

With LeBron James and Anthony Davis as the two selling points of their championship contending team, the Los Angeles Lakers are going to be aggressive yet again in terms of targeting high-caliber talents both on the trade market and in NBA free agency this offseason.

Dennis Schroder and Montrezl Harrell were two of the big names the Lakers added in the offseason last summer and they did add Andre Drummond after the trade deadline via a buyout with the Cavaliers, yet they were eliminated in the first-round of the playoffs.

Rob Pelinka and the Lakers’ front-office are going to do everything they can to add even more talent to their roster this offseason, which is why Mike Conley could be a player they heavily target. If Schroder leaves the Lakers, they will need to add another guard to their backcourt, especially with Alex Caruso also being a free agent this offseason.

Not only does Conley fit in perfectly with what the Lakers do defensively, but he is not a very ball-dominant guy, meaning he would be a really solid fit next to LeBron James in terms of ball-handling duties. In Utah, he has done a great job facilitating and deferring to Donovan Mitchell at times, which is why pairing up with James could definitely be beneficial for both parties.

While the Utah Jazz had the best record in the NBA this season and they were the 1-seed in the Western Conference, it seems like they are still ways away from being a true title contender. They have had some internal affairs with both Mitchell and Gobert over the last year or two and with them being an up-and-coming team in the West, this may not fare well for Mike Conley and his chances of winning a title.

Utah is not going anywhere anytime soon and they are going to continue to grow, but the Lakers are championship contenders already and Conley could be the final piece to their puzzle in terms of winning another title, barring no major injuries again like they had to deal with this year.

They are tight on cap space, but do not count out the Los Angeles Lakers on pursuing some of the big names available in NBA free agency like Mike Conley this offseason. They have some holes to fill and have never been shy about spending money to put together a championship-caliber team.
