The Hypothetical Trade

Clippers Receive: DeMar DeRozan (via sign-and-trade)

Spurs Receive: Ivica Zubac, Luke Kennard

Starting off, the salaries of Zubac and Kennard add up to right around $20 million, which could be less than what DeRozan would want on a new deal. If that is the case, the deal might need to be tweaked, but this would be the main package for both teams.

For the Spurs, this trade would make a lot of sense. Zubac would be able to come in and fill a role in the front-court, which would be valuable for San Antonio. Kennard would be the centerpiece of this trade for the Spurs.

Kennard is capable of scoring at a high level when given a consistent role. Back in 2019-20 with the Detroit Pistons, Kennard averaged 15.8 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game. He shot 44.2 percent from the floor and 39.9 percent from the three-point line in that season.

On the other hand, the Clippers would be adding more star power to their roster. DeRozan would form a lethal “Big Three” with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. Los Angeles would improve a lot on the offensive end of the court and would become an even more dangerous contender in the Western Conference.

Let’s take a closer look at why this sign-and-trade would make a ton of sense for the Clippers to pursue.
