Entering the offseason, the New Orleans Pelicans need to make important decisions at premier spots on the team. Following the firing of Stan Van Gundy just one year after hiring him as head coach, the Pelicans need a new coach that can lead New Orleans back to the postseason.

On top of that, the front office has to decide on whether or not Lonzo Ball is worth retaining at the point guard position as he is a restricted free agent.

If the Pelicans believe Ball is part of their long-term plans, then they can match any offer that Ball garners on the open market. But if New Orleans elects to move on from Ball, then making a move for a point guard like Brogdon could be in the cards. With the Pelicans having a young roster led by Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram, getting a veteran like Brogdon to aid the back court may be a wise choice.

Brogdon isn’t a point guard that is one-dimensional in needing the ball to score and he doesn’t need to score to contribute. The former second-round pick is a scrappy defender and he’s improved as a scorer in the paint. Creating a trio of Williamson, Ingram, and Brogdon could be exactly what the Pelicans need to vie for a playoff spot in the Western Conference next season.
