Does this trade make sense for the Minnesota Timberwolves?
It’s tough for a team to move on from a special player, but when your franchise does a forgettable job at surrounding that player with talent, then you end up forcing the player’s hand. At some point, Towns is going to want to be set free from Minnesota, and the team will have to oblige. It’s just a matter of when, not if. If it were to happen this offseason, the Raptors have an enticing package they could offer.
The duo of Siakam and Anunoby would be a formidable duo to build around for the future. Or at the least, it would give them future trade assets to stock up on draft capital moving forward. Siakam is a one-time All-Star that has evolved into a talented two-way player for the Raptors.

In the past two seasons, Siakam has averaged 22.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game while shooting 45.4 percent from the floor. Two-way wings like Siakam aren’t easy to find in today’s NBA. As for Anunoby, he’s also a versatile forward that is evolving into a solid two-way wing player.
While Flynn isn’t a starting point guard, he could give Minnesota a possible bench contributor at the point guard position. But what makes the trade an enticing one is Toronto’s next two first-round picks, including their projected seventh-overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.
Getting the seventh pick would give the Timberwolves a chance to have two lottery picks in this year’s draft, giving them an opportunity to move up for someone to replace Towns. A core of D’Angelo Russell, Anthony Edwards, Siakam, Anunoby, and whoever they select in the first round isn’t a bad start to a fresh rebuild.
